報告摘要

Diamond’s extreme properties in the context of quantum applications is well known, however, it also has an array of unusual thermal and nonlinear optical properties that present substantial opportunities in related areas. We have been investigating the properties of bulk and surface optics of bulk single crystals. We show that diamond reveals unexpected behaviour in several key aspects and is enabling extreme performance in areas as diverse as coherent beam generation, nanostructured diamond devices and quantum randomness.

報告人簡介

Richard Mildren,澳大利亞Macquarie University物理系教授,光子研究中心副主任,擔任澳大利亞研究基金委員會Fellow。其研究領(lǐng)域包括高亮度金剛石拉曼激光器、窄線寬布里淵激光器以及新型IV族非線性光學材料等,主持包括美國空軍研究室基金、澳大利亞國家科學科學基金等多項課題。作為主編出版專著Optical engineering of diamond 1項,專著章節(jié)4篇,并在Nature CommunicationLaser & Photonics Review、Optica等國際著名期刊發(fā)表學術(shù)論文70余篇,申請美國發(fā)明專利8項。諸多成果在Nature News、Laser Focus World、Optics and Photonics等網(wǎng)站得到了公開報道?;谄湓诟吖β式饎偸す馄黝I(lǐng)域的研究貢獻,Richard Mildren教授被授予2017年澳大利亞科學最高榮譽獎Eureka Prizes(杰出科學與國防領(lǐng)域)。
